Gir Wildlife Sanctuary

Gir Wildlife Sanctuary remains the most popular wildlife sanctuary of Gujarat and also India. It is the only place in India where you can spot gives Asiatic lions in their natural habitat. You can choose a jeep safari or canter safari over here.

In addition to these routine safaris, there are areas of the forest that can be explored on foot. A guide would accompany you in such an expedition.  Lions, deer, monkeys, peacocks and mongoose are commonly spotted here.

Best Time to Visit: November to March due to cool weather and high chances of lion sightings. Safaris are closed during the monsoons months of June to October.


Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary

Located in the border of Rajasthan and Gujarat with Aravalli on one side and Thar desert on the other this is a protected area for the endangered Sloth bears.

Situated in Rajkot, just 10 kms away from Jasond, Hingolgadh Nature Education Society is the perfect place to visit with kids.

This place highlights the need of wildlife conservation and also makes people and kids aware  about plants as well as animals over here. Reptiles, birds and wild animals are all found at this sanctuary. Chinkara, flying fox, hyena and wolf are the principal inmates along with leopards.

Vansda National Park

Situated in the Navsari district this is a small and yet one of the most popular national parks in Gujarat. Visualize a leopard sipping water from a river flowing through the forest.

Velavadar Blackbuck National Park

Situated in Bhavnagar district this is the only place in India with a huge population of endangered blackbucks. The screw like horns of blackbucks can be seen from really close at Velavadar Blackbuck Sanctuary.

Kutch Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary

Situated in Kutch this is one of the smallest wildlife sanctuaries in India. Great Indian Bustard is an endangered species and you can spot this rare bird that looks like a little ostrich here.

Harriers, partridges and cranes and many other rare birds can also be seen over here along with animals like wolves, blue bulls and hyenas.

Wild Ass Sanctuary

Wildlife sanctuaries are usually about dense forests and alarm calls of herbivore animals. This sanctuary located in Little Rann of Kutch on the other hand is a deserted land where you find lots of wild donkeys ambling in the open barren land.

Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary

Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary

Located jst 65 kms away from Ahmedabad this is the largest bird wetland bird sanctuary of Gujarat. With  a huge lake that is dotted with more than 300 islets this is an amazing place to visit.

One can spot more than 200 species of birds here during the winters. With amazing views Nalsarovar can easily be termed as the best place for bird watching in India. A early morning boat ride here is worth every penny.

Marine National Park

Littoral plants and animals can be easily seen at Marine National Park which is at a little distance from Jamnagar. This is the only place where you can see coral reefs without driving deep beneath the sea.

Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary
