Shilpgram Utsav – A Must visit for Craft Lovers

This is a crafts village that Sri. Rajiv Gandhi inaugurated in the year 1989. This is an interesting village housing 26 traditional houses from Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan. These houses have craft exhibits and mirrored interiors. You will also get to see performances of traditional dances demonstrating the excellent culture.

Jagadish Temple- Admire the beautiful architecture

This is a beautiful temple built in the year 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh. You would definitely admire its magnificent architecture. The main structure is carved and has black stone image of Jagannatha, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. You will also find Garuda’s brass image in the shrine. The money that is accumulated here is used for the purpose of feeding the needy.

 Visit Eklingji Temple

Eklingji temple is an architectural marvel and is an ancient temple dedicated to lord Shiva. Its a double storied sandstone and marble  temple that  looks awesome with its distinct pyramid style roof. The temple is the only one of its kind in the world that has a 50 feet high four faced Shiva Linga craved out of black marble.

Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum is located to the north of Udaipur and is known for its folk-art exhibition. Here, one can find display of several puppets, paintings, masks, musical instruments, dolls, turbans and tribal jewelry. Here, 1 hour puppet shows are conducted and they are surely not to be missed.

Visit Haldighati

When in Udaipur you cannot miss out  the historical site of Haldighati . The name is due to the yellow tinged soil of the region that gives the soil the colour of tumeric. This is also the site where Maharana Pratap  fiercely battled the Mughals under Raja Man Singh of Amber. The blood shed in this battle was so huge that it is belived to have turned the sand dunes nearby to red. You can feel a chill down your spine when you stand on the very land where so many brave soldiers fought.

Light and Sound Show At Kumbhalghar Fort

Kumbhalghar is situated at a distance of 65 kms from Udaipur and boasts of an awesome fort. Every evening at 6:45pm there is a light and sound show at the fort. Its a 45 minutes show and the tickets costs Rs.75 The show is about the the history of the fort that is told with music, sound and lights.  This is a spectacular not to be missed show.
