Vandalur

Distance from Chennai: 35 kms

To the south of Chennai, there is Vandalur which is called the Entrance Gate of Chennai City.

It is very popular for the Arignar Anna Zoological Park for its exclusive flora and fauna. Arignar Anna Zoological Park is one of themost  modern and scientifically managed zoos of the country where  the animals are kept in large open moated island type areas with simulated environment.

It is a serene and isolated fortress town , and the 400 year old  Sadras Fort, which is a typical Dutch Fort is just 100 metres away from the silvery shores of Kalpakkam is the main attraction here.

Gudiyam Caves

Distance from Chennai: 72 kms

Gudiyam Caves via Poondi is a very pleasant drive from Chennai.

You can even take a brief halt at Poondi reservoir, that is around 11 kilometers from Gudiyam. These caves are believed to be from Paleolithic age and transports you back in time. One needs to trek for around 5 kilometers from the Gudiyam village  to reach these caves. Carry food and water. Keep away from beehives. Needless to say, do not forget the camera.

Pulicat Lake

This is the second largest salt water lake of India after Chilka.
