Alappuzha – The Venice of East


Alappuzha or Alleppy, is one of the most beautiful places in Kerala with an array of breathtaking backwaters. Its a medley of serene lagoons, scenic lakes , palm fringed canals and white beaches. Known for the best houseboat cruises , both sides of the backwaters here are dotted with swaying coconuts,  picturesque villages where coir, boat building, fish farming and toddy tapping are the mainstays of economy.

The Food

Alappuzha is a non-vegetarian’s heaven. Prawns, oysters, lobsters, clams, crabs and Karimeen made in  traditional Kerala style are a few must haves when here. From upscale restaurants to shacks selling fresh catch from the sea , Alappuzha offers great variety of food in every budget. The vegetarian must haves are ghee roast dosas, avials, appams, Kerala parothas and idlis.


Kerala is blessed with tropical climate where the summers temperatures can be anywhere between 38C-20C and winter 32C-16C. The best time to enjoy the immense natural beauty of Alappuzha  is from September to May.
