River Rafting and Kayaking
River- rafting and kayaking in Manali is offered by many private operators at the water sports centre at Pirdi near Kullu. Rafting is conduced on stretches of the River Beas. Kayaking is done at Pandoh Dam on the way to Mandi. Water rafting stretch is from Pirdi down to Jhiri, on a stretch of approximately 14 kms. The journey takes nearly one & half hour consisting of rapids from grade II & III.
When: April – June. Time: Starts at 10 am.
Paragliding can be undertaken at Solang Valley, 14 kilometers from Manali. Short flights of 1 to 2 minutes as well as high flying lasting for around half an hour for experienced people are organized at places like Marhi, Fatru, Kothi and Bijli Mahadev. Soaring high up in the sky becomes all the more fun as you visualize the splendid hills down there.

Spectacular camp sites with dense forests of cedar, clean mountain air and invigorating breeze are the highlights of Manali. Beas River originates in Rohtang Pass and it is one of the most amazing camping spots. For amateurs, lavish camping sites are there at Solang Valley and Kothi in the middle of apple trees.

Around 3 kilometers from Manali, The Mountaineering Institute in Manali in support with the Himachal Tourism organises courses in skiing, rock climbing and mountaineering. If you are interested in high altitude trekking, rock climbing, high altitude rescue and relied courses or minor mountaineering sports activities and training, approach this institute.

Rock Climbing and Rappelling
The hills and valleys surrounding Manali, especially Solang Valley has some great cliffs and rocks for rappelling and rock climbing. The areas that have the best overhangs and cliff faces are to be found in Aleo, Kothi and Shuru.
When: April- June and October – November
Solang Valley has zorbing facilities where you get engulfed by a huge rolling ball and see the world upside down.
